Hey everyone! My partner and I are planning a two-week vacation to Germany this fall, and we are obsessed with the idea of visiting some truly magical castles. We already have Neuschwanstein on our list, but we'd love to know what else is worth the detour. What are your absolute favorite fairytale castles in Germany that we just can't miss?

You guys absolutely have to add Eltz Castle to your itinerary! It's tucked away in a forest valley and looks straight out of a storybook. Honestly, it gave me the same magical feeling I usually look for when researching summer escape spots, just with gorgeous autumn vibes instead.

Hohenzollern Castle is another stunning one that rivals Neuschwanstein. When the morning fog rolls in, it literally looks like it's floating in the clouds.

Don't skip Burg Eltz! It has been owned by the same family for over 800 years and the interior is remarkably well-preserved. It's definitely worth the detour from Frankfurt.

If you find yourselves needing a quick break from castle hopping during your two weeks, you might enjoy checking out some city escape ideas for a change of pace in places like Munich or Berlin.

Lichtenstein Castle is tiny compared to Neuschwanstein, but it sits dramatically on a cliff edge. It's often called the 'fairytale castle of Württemberg' for a reason.

Wartburg Castle is also fantastic if you want a heavy dose of history along with your fairytale views. Plus, the surrounding Thuringian Forest in autumn is breathtaking.

Schwerin Castle is a bit further north, but it's situated on its own island in a lake and looks like a Disney palace come to life.

Heidelberg Castle is iconic, though more of a romantic ruin, but the town itself is pure magic in the fall. Have an amazing trip!
