My partner and I are planning our first trip to Central/Eastern Europe this summer and have exactly 7 full days on the ground to explore Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. We're looking for advice on how to best divide our time, efficient travel between cities (train vs. bus?), and must-see attractions without feeling too rushed. Any recommendations for local experiences, food spots, or even specific day-by-day breakdowns would be incredibly helpful to make the most of our week. We're open to suggestions for accommodation areas too, especially if they're walkable to major sights!

Seven days for three cities is incredibly ambitious, bordering on exhausting! You'll spend a significant chunk of your precious time traveling between them. If you're set on all three, I'd suggest: Prague (2.5 days), Vienna (2 days), Budapest (2.5 days). Trains are generally more comfortable and efficient for these routes, especially between Prague-Vienna and Vienna-Budapest. Book them in advance for better prices!

It's a whirlwind, but totally doable if you're strategic! My recommendation for time division would be 3 days in Prague, 2 in Vienna, and 2 in Budapest. Prague needs a bit more time for its castle complex and Old Town. For travel, definitely trains (ÖBB, ČD, MÁV) – they're scenic and drop you right in the city. Accommodation-wise, look for places near the historic centers for maximum walkability.

You're in for a fast-paced but amazing trip! I'd lean towards 2-2-3: Prague (2 days), Vienna (2 days), Budapest (3 days). Budapest has those fantastic thermal baths and ruin bars that are great for evening relaxation after busy days. For efficient travel, FlixBus is often cheaper than trains, but trains are usually more comfortable. Consider flying into Prague and out of Budapest to save backtracking.

Don't try to cram too much in! You'll be constantly on the move. For 7 days, I'd honestly advise picking just two cities, like Prague and Budapest, and giving yourselves 3.5 days in each. You'll get to experience them much more deeply without feeling rushed. If you *must* do all three, focus on 2-3 absolute must-sees per city and don't stress about the rest.

Must-sees without feeling too rushed: Prague - Old Town Square, Charles Bridge at sunrise, Prague Castle. Vienna - Schönbrunn Palace (book tickets online!), St. Stephen's Cathedral. Budapest - Fisherman's Bastion, a Danube River cruise, and a thermal bath experience (Széchenyi or Gellért). For local food, try Trdelník in Prague, Schnitzel in Vienna, and Langos in Budapest!

Trains are definitely the way to go for comfort and avoiding city traffic. Check Seat61.com for detailed info on routes and booking. As for accommodation, staying in the Old Town in Prague, Innere Stadt in Vienna, and District V or VII in Budapest will put you right in the heart of the action and minimize travel time within cities. This trip will be more about 'seeing' than 'experiencing' given the pace.

I did a similar trip once and learned that travel days eat up a lot of time. Factor in at least half a day for each city transfer. This means you realistically have about 1.5-2 days per city. To make the most of it, prioritize your absolute top attractions and consider a hop-on-hop-off bus for quick overviews. A possible day-by-day breakdown if you're highly efficient: Day 1-2 Prague (Old Town, Charles Bridge, Castle). Day 3 Morning train to Vienna, afternoon Vienna (St. Stephen's, Hofburg). Day 4 Vienna (Schönbrunn, Naschmarkt). Day 5 Morning train to Budapest, afternoon Budapest (Parliament, Danube cruise). Day 6-7 Budapest (Buda Castle, Fisherman's Bastion, Thermal Bath, Ruin Bars). It's tight, but covers the main highlights!

To make it feel less rushed, embrace local experiences over ticking off every single landmark. In Prague, do a beer tasting or explore the Jewish Quarter. In Vienna, spend an afternoon at a traditional coffee house. In Budapest, soak in a thermal bath and enjoy the ruin bars! These are the memories that will last, even with limited time.

For accommodation, I highly recommend booking places with good public transport access, even if not directly in the 'center.' For example, in Vienna, places near the Ringstrasse are great. In Budapest, near Astoria or Deák Ferenc tér. This saves time and energy. And please, book your trains and accommodation ASAP for summer travel, prices only go up!

While 7 days for three cities is a challenge, it's a great taste! Just be prepared for early mornings and late nights. If you find yourselves wishing for more time, remember that planning a 2-week Europe trip allows for a much more relaxed pace. For this trip, I'd say 3 days Prague, 2 Vienna, 2 Budapest, and enjoy the journey between cities as part of the adventure!
